Mice cause a lot of destruction in the home and can be a real nuisance if left uncontrolled. They have also been reported to harbor disease-carrying fleas and can spread diseases like typhoid when they come into contact with food meant for humans. Mice infestation is easily noticeable due to the presence of their droppings and trails. They are very active at night and can often be heard scurrying around in the darkness. They gnaw on plastic and wooden surfaces and even chew on clothing and nibble on stored foodstuff. To avoid this destruction, mouse control steps have to be taken.

The first step to take in any mouse control strategy is to set high standards of hygiene and sanitation in the home. Proper garbage disposal will deny mice their preferred environments for feeding, breeding and hiding. Any entry holes that mice use to invade the building should be sealed the moment they get noticed by using cement or strong metallic mesh that mice cannot chew through. Mouse traps have proven to be a very effective way of eliminating mice. These can be in the form of snap traps that kill the mice by breaking their necks, or the simple traps that capture mice alive.

One of the most effective methods widely used in mouse control involves the use of poison. These poisons kill mice almost immediately, and can also be very dangerous to human beings. Great care should be taken when handling these poisons to prevent any accidental ingestion and subsequent poisoning. The anticoagulant based in mouse poisons are very effective in killing mice since they cause their blood to thin out and fail to clot. The poison is applied to foodstuffs then strategically placed along the mouse routes, behind furniture, in dark corners and any other places where mouse droppings have been seen.

There are several biological methods that can also be employed as part of mouse control. The domestic cat is very effective when it comes to eradicating mice. Cats naturally hunt mice and even their presence in the home can act as an effective deterrent to any mice thinking of invading that household. There are pest eradication firms that provide professional mouse eradication services using an extensive array of methods under their belts. They have technical experts who will even unearth mouse nests around the house from which these mice use to launch their raids into the home.
